Explore how we are working towards our goals around reducing energy consumption, and its associated emissions.

Carbon management plan

Edge Hill University recognises its responsibility to protect and enhance our environment and reduce the impacts and carbon emissions associated with the use of electricity and gas. Our Carbon Management Plan formalises our commitment to sustainability in this area.

Objectives

  • To reduce the environmental impact and costs arising from energy (gas and electricity) use across our estate.
  • To embed a culture of energy awareness across the University, empowering staff and students to adopt low‑energy behaviours that support continual reductions in energy use.

Targets

  • Install Automatic Meter Reader technology for energy consumption monitoring in 10 non‑residential buildings to enhance data visibility, support proactive energy‑efficiency management, and inform behaviour‑change initiatives. Deadline: December 2026.
  • Develop and deliver targeted energy‑reduction awareness talks to relevant FM-based staff who oversee teams in roles where daily activities can influence energy use, equipping them with practical actions and messaging to support organisational energy‑reduction objectives. Deadline: December 2026.
  • From 2026 to 2031, deliver two behaviour‑change events per year focused on reducing energy consumption, ensuring consistent staff and student engagement and supporting the organisation’s energy‑reduction objectives in alignment with the planned end date of the next iteration of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy, to improve awareness, engagement, and operational water‑efficiency behaviours across the organisation. Deadline: December 2031.
  • Develop and launch a training module for all staff and students around practical ways their daily tasks can influence energy use, ensuring they receive practical guidance on behaviours and operational actions that support organisational energy‑reduction objectives. Deadline: September 2027.
